All rates below are per kilogram of live weight — the goat's actual weight on the scale, not the weight of meat after slaughter.

What a goat actually costs you
Multiply the rate by the live weight. A 30 kg 87% Boer cross at NPR 1,300 per kg costs about NPR 39,000. Ask for the animal to be weighed in front of you before money changes hands — this is normal practice and any honest seller will agree.

Six things that move the price
| Factor | Effect on price |

| Breeding percentage | The single biggest factor. More Boer blood means faster growth, so the rate per kg is higher. |
| Live weight | Price is per kilogram of live weight, so a heavier goat costs more in total even at the same rate. |
| Age and purpose | Proven breeding bucks and does are priced per animal, not per kg, because their value is in the offspring they produce. |
| Body condition | A well-muscled, healthy animal sits at the top of its band. A thin or recently sick one sits at the bottom. |
| Season | Rates rise in the weeks before Dashain, when demand across Nepal peaks. Buying stock just after Dashain is usually cheapest. |
| Quantity | Bulk orders are negotiable. Transport cost per animal also falls as the order size grows. |
Which percentage should you buy?
Paying for the highest percentage is not always the smartest choice. Higher Boer content grows faster but needs better feed and shelter to show that advantage. If your shed and feed are not ready, a 75% or 87% cross will out-perform a 93% animal on the same farm.
- New to goat farming, or farming in the hills: 75% cross. Hardiest and cheapest.
- Commercial meat farm with a decent shed and year-round fodder: 87% cross. Best balance of price and growth.
- Good shed, planned feeding, aiming for maximum weight: 93% cross.
- Upgrading your own herd: buy one 100% pure buck and cross it with local does. This is the cheapest route to Boer genetics across a whole herd.

How to avoid overpaying
- See the animal weighed on a scale in front of you.
- Ask which percentage it is, and ask how the seller knows.
- Check the vaccination and deworming record before you pay.
- Buy just after Dashain, not just before, if you are buying stock rather than selling.
- Compare the total price, not the rate per kg — a cheap rate on a thin goat is not a bargain.
